Die Entscheidung, das Album selbst zu produzieren, spielte eine wichtige Rolle im Selbst(wieder)findungsprozess der Band. Es entstanden über 20 Songs, wobei jedem einzelnen Titel genug Zeit zum Reifen und Raum für Verbesserungen eingeräumt wurde. Am Ende dieses nativen Zyklus wurden die Songs in aller Ruhe und mit größter Aufmerksamkeit in den Suiseidl Studios (München) aufgenommen und gemischt. Im Anschluss wurde das Material auf 14 perfekt harmonisierende Songs reduziert und das Album zusammengestellt. "Detention" ist durch den Input aller Bandmitglieder gleichermaßen eingängig wie anspruchsvoll geworden. Der lebendigen und mitreißenden Mischung aus melodischem Rock und "Hardcore ohne Scheuklappen" kann man sich als Hörer nur schwer entziehen. Letztendlich haben The Blackout Argument mit "Detention" genau das Album geschrieben, das sie seit ihrer Gründung immer schreiben wollten. The Blackout Argument pride themselves over their effort to self-produce 'Detention', an approach that played an important key role in (re-)coining the band. They wrote and recorded more than 20 songs, reworked them and let them mature in a constant cycle and finally tracked them at Suiseidl Studios (Munich, Germany) with highest care and consideration. Subsequently this creation was narrowed down to a selection of 14 harmonizing songs which in the end made up 'Detention', to be released in January 2011. 'Detention' is challenging and manifold yet extremely catchy and engaging. It creates a very sanguine mix of heavy rock and forward-thinking hardcore. It became nothing less than the album the band always wanted to create.
